Kagaku Sentai Dynaman

The seventh episode of Toei Company Ltd.’s Super Sentai series is titled Kagaku Sentai Dynaman. The 51 episodes of the show were broadcast from February 5, 1983, to January 28, 1984.

It was initially planned to be a baseball-themed sentai, but it eventually changed to a science-themed season. Six episodes were given a parody dub and shown in 1987 on the USA cable network as Dynaman.

Japanese fans gave Dynaman the simple moniker “Kayaku Sentai” (with Kayaku denoting “gunpowder”) as a play on the show’s frequent explosions. Takayuki Suzuki, the director, even claimed that the crew used “the highest quantity of gunpowder.”

Although that moniker is no longer used in the west, the prefix “Dyna” might be interpreted as an acronym for the word “Dynamite,” keeping the pun’s original intent.

After this series, voice actor Toru Ohira, who began narrating the Super Sentai series with Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, left the project.

In addition to narrating Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger in 1992 and providing the voice of Emperor Bacchus Wrath in Chouriki Sentai Ohranger in 1995, he also returned to narrate the Metal Hero Series from 1984 to 1989 (with the exception of Choujinki Metalder in 1987).

The series received a 10.6% average rating.

Plot Kagaku Sentai Dynaman

The Jashinka Empire ()—a compound of the Japanese words for “evil” (Jashin) and “evolution” (Shinka)—emerges from the Earth’s core and seeks to rule the entire planet.

Dr. Yumeno gathers five innovators to his Yumeno Invention Laboratory and grants them the ability to transform into Dynamen in an effort to stop them.

While each member of the Kagaku Sentai Dynaman has a different objective, they are all working together to halt the Jashinka Empire.
